19 of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback Medvedev secured his initial title for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has experienced a challenging period, achieving just one match at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in specific - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-time trainer his previous coach.

Currently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

This marks his first championship following the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt from March of the previous year.

The win also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the first title I got when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, featuring in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and recurring emotional displays on court had led some to doubt if his skill to play at the highest level was finished.

But the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and compete assertively, reinforced by an better serving game.

Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Moutet, securing 4 of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players swapped service breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his first professional victory, took control to force a final set.

Moutet defended four initial chances in a close third set before the champion secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he secured the title with a rally at the net area, with Moutet failing to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
